  3. The Impact of External Variance: The degree to which systems thinking mitigates external economic shocks versus internal operational complexity was not isolated in this study.

Concrete Suggestions for Future Research

Based on the research gaps acknowledged by Palaima and Skaržauskienė (2010), future scholarly inquiries should prioritize the following:

  1. Divergent Sector Analysis: Researchers should expand the participant pool to include industries such as healthcare, education, and government to see if systems thinking provides similar strategic advantages in non-market-driven contexts.
  2. Triangulated Assessment Frameworks: To address self-reporting bias, future studies should incorporate 360-degree feedback, where subordinates and peers evaluate the leader’s systemic competencies against the leader’s own perceptions.

  4. Longitudinal Stability Studies: Research should track how systems thinking competencies develop and impact performance over time, rather than relying on the "snapshot" provided by cross-sectional data.
  5. Multi-National Comparisons: Investigating these constructs across different national contexts would help determine if systems thinking is a universal leadership requirement or if its effectiveness is culturally moderated.
  6. Curriculum Impact Studies: Following the suggestion that systems dynamics be integrated into leadership training, research should assess the direct performance delta between leaders who receive formal systems training versus those who do not.
