A new AI tool named INDRA has been developed to enable Large Language Models (LLMs) to access and process vast archives of previously inaccessible business records from industries such as tobacco, fossil fuel, and chemicals. These archives, comprising hundreds of millions of pages disgorged through litigation, were previously not compiled into an LLM-readable corpus, leading to potential inaccuracies and hallucinations when LLMs addressed related topics. INDRA addresses this by embedding archival historiography conventions into its system protocol.
Why it matters
This development is strategically important as it enhances the accuracy and reliability of AI tools when analyzing sensitive historical corporate data. By providing direct access to primary source documents, it mitigates risks associated with AI hallucination and improves the factual basis for strategic decision-making and risk assessment across various sectors.
Key insights
- Vast archives from litigation against industries like tobacco, fossil fuel, and chemical manufacturers exist but were not previously accessible to general-purpose LLMs.
- The lack of direct LLM access to these archives could result in hallucinations and inaccuracies when chatbots discuss related historical events or industry practices.
- INDRA is a new research platform designed to convert these historical business records into an LLM-readable corpus.
- The platform incorporates the conventions of archival historiography into its system-level protocol to ensure reliable and contextually accurate processing of these documents.
