Challenges related to English language proficiency among Bangladeshi students in Malaysian universities

Malaysian universities, predominantly using English as the medium of instruction, are attracting a significant number of Bangladeshi students. A study identified challenges faced by these students due to limited English Language Proficiency (ELP), which is a prerequisite for enrollment. The research utilized a mixed-methods approach, surveying 213 and interviewing 10 Bangladeshi students across various Malaysian universities.

Addressing English language proficiency issues for international students is crucial for maintaining the quality and reputation of higher education institutions in English-speaking environments. Such challenges can impede academic success and overall student experience, potentially impacting the attractiveness of a nation as a preferred study destination.
